There has been a lot of hype recently about families choosing to holiday during the school term time. The government say that no child should be taken out of school for holidays and advise parents to stick to the term holidays when choosing when to go away.
The government have recently introduced a system where parents can be finned if their child is out of school for a holiday. I have heard many parents say that the money they save from booking a holiday during term time more than covers the fee that they would be charged by the school so it is actually worthwhile.
Obviously the main reason for children not taking unnecessary time off school is that they will miss out on subjects being taught and it may mean they fall behind or the teachers has to spend time revisiting subjects they have already covered. There is discussion that the government may try to help with the increased holiday prices parents face during school holidays.
